Litha.

Hey Friends.

With that special time of the year coming up, let’s talk more about the sabbat coming next Friday. Litha, what a beautiful time to be alive! Litha is also known as midsummer or the summer solstice. It marks the official longest day of the year, and the shortest night as well as the start of summer.

Midsummer is celebrated on the 21st and 22nd of December in the Southern hemisphere. In Australia the Sturt Desert Pea is a sacred flower of this time. Litha falls in the dry stifling heat of summer in the southern part of our land, but in the north, Litha falls in the hot, wet season, and represents fruitfulness. Litha celebrates abundance, fertility, virility, and the beauty and bounty of nature. It is the celebration of sun, flowers, and warm nights! This sabbat glorifies the sun and the sun god. Time to dance in the garden with the faeries and celebrate the warm nights, colourful wildflowers and the play with animals in the grass.

Some of us can be quite extra, if that’s your thing then you can get right into it and decorate your altar and have a (safe) bonfire. If you’re a little more low-key, or in the witchy closest, that’s also totally awesome and you can do more subtle things like just going outside and being amongst nature, or have a friends night and eat to your hearts content.

Here are some ways to celebrate:

- Host a bonfire to represent the sun. Celebrate the fertility of the gods and make them an offer (Keep note of fire restrictions in Australia though. We don’t want to be the cause of a bush fire)

- Go for a hike to get in touch with nature. Try some meditation.

- Time for a seasonal cleanse! Not only physically, but also a spiritual one.

- Feast! Host a BBQ outside for your friends

- Set up your Litha altar. Use yellows, oranges, reds and golds. Include solar symbols. You can also decorate your altar with the opposed of the light (fire-water..) as the nights will start to be longer from that day.

- Read and learn! Go outside and enjoy a good book or add a new chapter to your Book of Shadows.
